Slow Down Asheville - Pedestrian Safety Campaign

Encouraging pedestrian safety to prevent accidents and save lives. Discover how slowing down protects communities and enhances neighborhood safety.

About the campaign

Attorney Lakota R. Denton, NC Farm Bureau, and Fast Signs of Asheville present SLOW DOWN ASHEVILLE, a public safety campaign that aims to reduce pedestrian accidents in Asheville by reminding people to drive with appropriate caution on city streets. Asheville, NC leads the state, per capita, in pedestrian related accidents, according to a recent study by the NC DOT.  “As a city experiencing rapid growth that prides itself on being family and community friendly, we feel that we have a responsibility to help shape that growth in a way that reflects care and advocacy for those most vulnerable”, says Pedestrian Accident Attorney Lakota Denton.

As parents of young children and residents of Asheville’s congested neighborhoods, our law firm knows all too well the importance of promoting safe driving behavior. We’ve partnered with local businesses to produce the yellow yard signs that are popping up all over town. With the help of our community partner network, we are distributing these FREE yard signs to residents of Asheville who wish to send a message to drivers in their neighborhood.

Join our revitalized SLOW DOWN ASHEVILLE campaign by collecting our yellow yard signs for residents who want to promote cautious driving in their neighborhoods, reflecting a commitment to safety in a growing community. Let’s make our community safer together.

Yard signs are available at our office, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Burton Street Community Center and Shiloh Community Center.

As Asheville grows and experiences higher traffic volume, drivers are finding backroads and shortcuts to save time. Many of these shortcuts are narrow residential roads with on-street parking, and less than ideal visibility. Drivers not paying attention to their surroundings or posted speed limits are creating a real safety hazard. As a personal injury attorney in Asheville, I handle a large number of pedestrian related accidents and unfortunately, fatalities resulting from accidents involving autos and pedestrians. I feel that as Asheville grows, there needs to be an increased sense of awareness and importance about pubic safety, and we’re trying to do what we can to support the sentiment. Based on the response to this campaign, it would seem others in the community strongly agree.
